QL DPSS lasers are benchtop, pulsed, air-cooled lasers. Average output powers are between 5mW and 2W.

Active Q-switching through acousto-optic modulation gives precise control of the repetition frequency and the pulse-to-pulse amplitude stability. The repetition frequency supplied as standard is 1-100 kHz using the internal modulation clock of the power supply and 1-200 kHz using an external trigger signal.

These lasers provide excellent beam quality and power stability at a mid-range price level. Average power stability is <5% (after warm-up). There is also a small amount of pulse-to-pulse energy variation of 3% in the IR, 5% in the green and 10% in the UV. Amplitude noise within the duration of the pulse is not specified. These lasers are multi longitudinal mode lasers. As a result, the coherence is low. Single longitudinal mode options of the QL series are available on special request. The beam pointing stability of these lasers is extremely good, typically <0.005 mrad/°C after warm-up.

A power supply that matches the laser head is provided as standard (code: PL2001). The supply includes key switch, interlock, front panel indication LEDs, and modulation controls. These comprise of a 4 character LED display showing pulse repetition rate, pulse frequency manual control knob (for adjustment of frequency when operating in internal mode), modulation type selection switch (internal or external) and external modulation signal input. An optional 12V DC power supply is available. The QL series laser head comes in several different sizes, depending on the wavelength and output power.

These lasers are designed for lab use. They are also suitable for incorporation into such OEM systems where they can be maintained or replaced easily at scheduled and unscheduled service intervals. These lasers are not designed for operation in harsh temperature, humidity, or electrical environments or for exposure to high loading stress, acceleration, shock or vibration. Please note that the failure to provide adequate cooling may result in the premature failure of DPSS lasers.
