An optical power meter is a device for measuring the power or energy of a laser beam. This technique is often referred to as radiometry.

At the lower end of the range of optical power meters, laser probes provide a quick and simple method to make single power measurements.

Optical power meters for low power lasers come as separate heads and readout units, with multiple heads compatible with each readout unit. The laser power meter readout units are listed along with the heads in the ‘Optical Power Meters for low power lasers’ section and are not interchangeable with the high power heads.

The higher power optical power meter heads are all compatible with the ‘Readout Units for Optical Power and Energy Meter Heads’. These OPM heads and readout units are listed separately.

For OEM use, optical power and energy sensors are available as separate products. Custom sensors, housings and electronics can be designed to fit your requirements – please ask for details.

This section lists optical power meters for taking occasional measurements. To see our range of Optical Power Monitors for continual optical power monitoring, please refer to the section for photodiodes and photodetectors.

Laser Probes

LaserPoint has introduced a real breakthrough in the field with two series of fully automatic laser power probes that calculate laser power by a microprocessor based measurement of temperature dynamics. Probes range from 500mW to 10kW with dual-wavelength (CO2 and Yag) capabilities. Repeatability ranges of ±1% – ±5%, 3-4% accuracy and 10mW- 1W resolution on 50W – 10kW probes.

OEM Power & Energy Sensors

Laser Point has developed a series of compact power sensors that can be easily integrated into laser machines to monitor the power during the operation. For more than two decades Laser Point has been supplying OEM power & energy sensors to some of the world’s leading laser manufacturers. R&D activities are still strong, especially on new applications or on the design of new detectors. These are provided in a range of series, including Sensor Disk (SD), Amplified Head (AH) and Cased Sensors (CS). These all include varying power ranges and coating specifications.

Heads for Pulsed High Power Lasers

Laser Point manufactures different families of the state of the art detector heads for measurement of powers and energies of all lasers, from UV to the Far Infrared, in any application within the industrial, medical or scientific fields. All thermal sensors allow to perform “long term” laser power measurements. Power ranges 2mW-20W with varying Absorbers producing spectral ranges of 0.4-5.2µm.

Heads for CW High Power Lasers

Laser Point manufactures different families of the state of the art detector heads for measurement of powers and energies of all lasers, from UV to the Far Infrared, in any application within the industrial, medical or scientific fields. All thermal sensors allow to perform “long term” laser power measurements. Power ranges of 2W- 6kW producing a spectral range of 0.19-11µm.

Heads for CW Low Power Lasers

Artifex Engineering manufactures different families of the state of the art detector heads for the measurement of powers and energies of all lasers, from UV to the Far Infrared, in any application within the industrial, medical or scientific fields. The OPM150 has a max power of 15mW and a wavelength range of 400 – 1650nm.

Readout Units

Laser Point solutions are characterized by a flexible approach to laser measurements: different sensor meters are available, allowing to read measurements on a stand-alone portable instrument, on PC screen or simply storing them on a memory device. Laser 2000 provides the PC Software and PLUS2 variations with a power range of 100nW-10kW.
